In this first of two interviews, he discusses the University Hospital’s initial responses to COVID, including the early graduation of fourth-year medical students and the reassignment of surgical residents to intensive care. He also relates the challenges of acquiring supplies, the coordination and information sharing among regional hospitals and associations, and the importance of Stony Brook’s own research into treating patients with the disease.
