Dear Mr Kudrnofsky,

It is clearly difficult to

communicate

at this distance.

While

I would like to be cooperative, it is difficult to do so. We are not a
source of film or video materials, but we are members of an academic
department of psychiatry at a medical school. As such, we have
collected some materials for our students and teaching, and have, at

these available to others, including radio and television.
We do not do so for stated fees, but will cooperate if the
objective is within our missions as educators. As such, we ordinarily
serve as consultants. As such, we usually obtain our satisfaction in
our teaching, and to a lesser extent in the fees for our time.
From time to time, we have been asked to allow the media to
film our patients, before, during, and after treatment. We generally
are able to obtain patient and family cooperation and for such efforts
we generally ask that they be paid at prevailing commercial acting or
consulting rates.
If you wish our help, you or one of your associates should
discuss the details of your proposed programming, and we
visit us to be
will try to
responsive as to what we can provide.

Dear "Dr. Kudrnofsky,
Over the years I have collected documentaries of ECT and Metrazol shock
therapy, and recently I made some videotapes for my students and patients. Our
materials have been used by the major American television networks and BBC.
The source of the older material is diverse and the quality fair to poor. It
would be necessary to see the material and if any is of interest, we can then decide
on how best to get consent from the sources for your reproduction.
The recent material is also diverse. 1 have academically made 'teaching'
tapes, some abstracts of commercial tapes, case material of interviews of patients
before and after ECT, and finally, two commercially made videotapes developed as
teaching tools for our students and our patients. For our patients, the tapes are
used in obtaining 'informed' consent for electroshock therapy.

It would be useful to know what use is planned for these materials; the
anticipated size of the audience; number of reproductions; whether you are
requesting our tapes for your editing, or whether our participation in the
presentation is also requested.

Dear Dr. Kudrnofsky,

it is not clear

from your FAX of 12 May what more i can tell you.

Videotape of new material (ECT) made in the last few years is available.
The older material of insulin coma and Metrazol is on film.
We are not a commercial source of educational material. As an academic
institution, we use educational materials as part of our teaching and consultations.
We have worked often with producers and educators to develop teaching
programs,
and if you wish us to work together, please outline the aims of the project. The
expenses and fees for such consultation depends on the demands in time and effort.
1

am not sure that we can obtain lobotomy films but there are some sources
if the program requires specific footage.

that we can try

Since rely yours,
