Dear Dr. Goethe and Dr. Ford,
1
was so sorry the weather did not hold for your flight on Thursday. I very
much understand the frustrations of being at the airport and getting weather
reports every 15 minutes, only to decide that the trip had to be cancelled. It is then
that instrument rating looks so good.

had searched the ECT Database for citations to EEG and culled the
attached list as those that seemed most relevant. Interest in EEG studies has reawakened as we have become more interested in the definition of an 'adequate’ or
i

'therapeutic' seizure.

Two other topics have surfaced. Are focal or lateralized post-ECT findings
related to treatment outcome; and do focal or asymmetric records predict a good

or a bad outcome with treatment.

There is an international association, not well known in this country, that
meets every two years to discuss quantitative EEG and psychopharmacology. They
occasionally have papers on ECT, but the main benefit of the group is their interest
in the problems of quantification. Your 1986 report in Biological Psychiatry is
clearly within the interest of the group. The IPEG (International Pharmaco-EEG
Group) meets later this year (September 28-October 1) in Kobe, Japan.

Please re-schedule your trip. Weather in May is always better; I did my
New York to San Francisco flight in a Cessna 172 in May.
My regards.

Sincerely yours,
Max Fink, M.D.
