From time to time, we have been able to get special funding for a seminar or a colloquium at a meeting from some of the ECT companies or a few small foundations. But felloewship money sufficient to allow someone like yourself to develop an academic career has generally come from the National Institute of Mental Health. ' There has been an announcement of a new career fellowship program for medical graduates who have less than five years of post-residency experience. You may qualify and should consider applying. One applicant called me and asked whether I would agree to having him study here for a training period of one to two months, and I agreed. If you wish to arrange such a training program, I will do what I can to make the arrangements at those centers that may be of interest to you. As for project grants, these come exclusively from NIMH. There is a fund at Veterans Administration hospitals which allows investigators to get special funds ($25,000) and then to apply through a special VA funding program. start-up The work here is going well. We have started a five-day CME 'hands-on' training program in ECT. The first class went through in February; we are scheduling the second for the week of May 16. Our research projects are running well and we have a steady output of papers. Larry has taken over the ln-patient service; Krish Gujavarty is moving to the V.A.
