Dear Dr. Scott,

(Following your call, we made reservations for you and your wife at the
Three Village inn in Stony Brook, N.Y. for late arrival on Saturday, September 19,
and departure on Tuesday, September 22. The room is a double, with one bed. The
charge is $75 to $95/night, depending on the location. (Inn: 516-751 0555).

Kennedy Airport is about 55 miles from Stony Brook. The principal
connection is by airport limousine. If you let us know your flight number and arrival
time, we can arrange for either Winston Limousine (516-589-3938)or Colonial Taxi
(516-589 7878 or 800-645 7878) to pick you up. if we arrange a limousine, you will
call the appropriate number on arrival and they will tell you where to find the car.
The rate is about $35. Do not take a regular taxi —- the meter rate is excessive. if
you are in trouble, call us from the airport (516- $2 6651).

We plan to be at home (about 7 miles from the Inn) that week-end, as I am
'on call' at University Hospital. You will be welcome to join us Sunday afternoon or
evening, according to your jet-lag. i will plan to pick you up at the inn on Monday
morning at 0715; I will be treating patients with ECT at 0800 that morning, and
making patient rounds later in the morning. You are welcome to join in. After
rounds, approximately noon, 1 will be free to work with you.

Stony Brook, and the associated villages of Setauket and Old Field, are
quaint Old English villages, with a strong association with Long island Sound. There
are museums and old houses in the villages. A neighboring village is Port Jefferson,
which is a major port. A trip East along the North Fork will bring you to the
wineries and farms. A trip to the south will bring you to the Hamptons and Montauk
-- the ‘in' communities for the yuppies, the rich, and the famous around here. Or,
directly south is Fire Island and Jones Beach -- among the finest beaches in the
world. Bring bathing suits and boating shoes.
Have a good trip West.

Sincerely yours,

Max Fink, M.D.

Dear Dr. Scott,

at Stony Brook later this year.
end
the first Monday in September. A visit anytime
Summer holidays traditionally
after mid-September should be convenient.
We will be pleased to have you visit us

I

University Hospital is about 60 miles from mid-Manhattan. it is usually
more convenient to stay at one of our local inns; the Three Village inn (Main
Street, Stony Brook, New York 11790) is most favored.
Our present interest is in two projects -- the efficacy of ECT in therapy
resistant psychosis with an associated study of prolactin metabolism; and the
el-ectrophysioiogy o1 induced seizures. For the latter, we are re-examining the
relationship between the seizure EEG’and the efficacy of seizures; and between the
inter-seizure EEG and clinical outcome. We have completed a study of DST and
outcome in ECT, with disappointing results.
‘

.Your studies of ECT are indeed of interest to us, and i look forward to
reading the results of your studies. As you may know, i launched the journal
CONVULSIVE THERAPY in 1985. We are in our third year and i am quite pleased
with the quality of the material which we are receiving. You may wish to consider
the journal for the publication of reports from your studies.
Oswald.

We look forward to welcoming you in New York. My best regards
I

Sincerely yours,

Max Fink, M.D.
