Dear Tony,
Following your letter of August 28, we will expect you to give a lecture at.
the University on November 10 on the topic "Depressive Disorder in Primary Care".
We have made arrangements for you to stay at the Three Village Inn in
Stony Brook on the night of November 9. When you are in the States, would you call
my secretary, Mrs. Carolyn Paul (516 MM 2929) and she will clue you in to getting

to Stony Brook and the lm from local airports. it would be best to fly into the Long
Island Macarthur (lslip) airport rather than LaGuardia, Kennedy, or Newark
airports.
you come before dinner on Monday evening, i will arrange to have some
associates meet you and your wife for dinner.
it!

We look forward to your visit.

Sincerely yours,
Max Fink, MJ).

Dear Tony,
Thank you for your advice in the matter of the Wesner and Winokur article.
Another assessor is equally unenthusiastic and we will probably return it to the
authors with your advice when I get the advice of a third.
It was good to hear that you would be visiting New York this Fall. Our
Department has weekly 'Grand Rounds' for invited speakers on Tuesday mornings.
The dates you made available, October 30 and November 10 includes two Tuesdaysthe first is Election Day and an annual State holiday; the second date, November 10
is provisionally open for you.
The presentations are in a main auditorium, with about 40-50 members of
the staff present. Duration is usually one hour with discussion up to U6 hours. This
is usually followed by an informal lunch with the psychiatric residents. Some
clinicians also make informal rounds, either before or after the presentation, on
one of the psychiatric services, either seeing a number of cases in walk-rounds or a
single case presentation.
I would be pleased to be your host. We can arrange for your stay at the
University, and we usually provide an honorarium of $250.

Let me know if these arrangements are agreeable, and select a topic of
your present interest. While the main thrust of the Department is clearly in
neuroscience, there is a nascent interest in the more psychosocial aspects of

clinical practice as well.
I

look forward to your visit.

Sincerely yours,

cc: G. Carlson
