I When Professor Hamilton was a guest in my home in early September, we spoke of many things, including my concerns with psychiatric classification systems as well as my interest in coanisive therapy. We discussed a guest article on convulsive therapy, and I offered to write one whenever he asked. When he called a few weeks ago, it was to ask for an article on DSM-HI and the classification dilemma. I said that I would lookinto it, ”and do what i could. After a week, i wrote to say that I was not prepared to write such an article in the time limit he suggested. I recommended that he'consider an invitation to one of my students, Professor Michael Alan Taylor of the UHS/Chicago Medical School. Professor Taylor, and his associate Professor Richard Abrams, have published systematic studies of psychiatric diagnostic systems. He has carried out surveys of actual usage of the system, and has first-hand information on its limitations. He is well qualified for the task set by Professor Hamilton.
