Professor Fritz Henn, Ph.D., MD.
Department of Psychiatry 6: Behavioral Science

SUNY at Stony Brook
Long Island, New York 11794

Dear Fritz,

lam pleased to submit this letter in support of the promotion of Dr.
Krishnareddy Gujavarty from the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry
to Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry. I have worked closely with Dr.
Gujavarty for more than four years, as a collaborator on research projects, as a
team-mate in both the in-patient unit at lO-North and the Affective Disorders
Clinic in the CPD, and as a fellow teacher and member of the Department.
I have come to know his professional work very well. He is a dedicated and
responsible clinician, well trained (in our own resdiency training program, I might
add), with a sincere interest in our patients. He shows good clinical judgement,
relates well to patients and their families, and is very well liked by our co-workers.
He reads the literature avidly, and often presents the latest clinical findings in our
case conferences. He has accepted additional assignments within the Department,
including the medical management of the cases in the Sleep Disorders Program
when it was headed by Drs. Mitler and Baker, scientists without clinical

certification.

His knowledge of clinical psychiatry is excellent, and he likes to teach. In
addition to the supervision of residents, for many years he has taught psychopharmacology to each rotation of third year clerks. Each year, he has accepted the
repsonsibility for presentations in our Grand Rounds program.

He has accepted numerous departmental administrative assignments with
enthusiasm; the latest is his appointment as acting clinical director for the inpatient unit at University Hospital -- a position which he is carrying out with elan.
In his research work, he has made independent observations and reports in
sleep physiology and convulsive therapy. At present, he is principal investigator in
drug therapy studies.

His greatest strengths are in clinical care and the teaching of medical
students and residents. in his research, he has been slow to identify an area of
expertise, although his recent sleep studies show considerable promise of achieving
wider recognition.

lam delighted to recommend his promotion to associate protessorial rank.
He is a dedicated, reliable, and loyal member of our staff and we have come to
depend on him for his clinical and teaching skills.
This

letter may be shared with Krish.
Sincerely yours,
Max Fink, MD.

Professor of Psychiatry
