First. we no longer speak of shock therapy -- that phrase actually refers to 'insulin shock therapy' .- a treatment that no longer is used in the Western world. instead, we speak of ‘convulsive therapy' or the specific, ‘eiectroconvulsive therapy'. ' We have Cooperated with TV reporters on this same subject, and indeed, produced a set of videotapes for students and for patients and their families, in which we presented views of patients, before and after their treatment, as well as a treatment session. It should be possible to do so again. am of the opinion that the best presentation is not made of patients after treatment, nor of patients before treatment, nor of different patients at different stages of the treatment; rather, the same patients should be presented while ill, and after the course of therapy. Such a presentation would require your interviewer and camera crew to come to the University on at least two occasions, about four to six weeks apart. From this experience, I four to six patients any morning, so that it should be possible to present two or three patients before treatment at one visit; and the same patients some weeks later.
