Epstein, M.D. Department of Psychiatry Brown University Providence, R102912 Dear Dr. Epstein, I am writing with regard to the consideration being given to the promotion of Barry Fogel MD. to the ram of Associate Professor. 1 have known Dr. Fogel for about three years through his interest in the problems of the elderly and the development of a medical/surgical psychiatric unit. For his fellowship in geriatrics, Barry consulted me with regard to the collection and analysis of the data of the ECT treated cases. h our association, I found him knowledgeable and enthusiastic. He is well read and has a historical and political perspective on the treatments of the elderly. His experience in treating patients in the medical/surgical unit has given him a unique will and the assurance to manage these difficult cases well. i am unable to assess his teaching skills, as Ihave not had an opportunity to observe him in a lecture or conference situation.
