HAROLD SACKEIM. I first met Harold about five or six years ago, when he was first planning his studies with Sid Malitz in convulsive therapy. He sought my advice and l was impressed first with his knowleae and that the proposed program was a good one. Later, when he and Sid proposed a conference on ECT at the New York Academy of Sciences, 1 was consulted. in the past year, we have collaborated in editing the new journal CONVULSIVE THERAPY. Finally, ihave worked with him at numerous conferences on ECT. (Sw- Harold is intense, dynamic, and ambitious. He came to the field of convulsive therapy just a few years ago, and already has made his mark as a leader in the quality and quantity of his studies. He has proposed ingenious hypotheses of the mode of action of BCT, and has stimulated considerable work and debate. He is clearly one of the nation‘s outstanding researchers in this esoteric and - controversial topic. He is an excellent lecturer; has handled himself well in public debate, even fending off the challenges of hostile reporters with considerable skill. addition to his contributions in EC'l‘, he has done innovative research in perception and his contributions are the basis for considerable ongoing study.
