Lefkowits, M.D. to the rank of Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry. first met Hank during his residency at Hillside Hospital. He was an enthusiastic student, who participated actively in our clinical research. projects. He was interested in studies of staff attitudes toward the somatic therapies, particularly to the introduction of psychoactive drugs and the continued use of insulin coma. He was an assessor in our insulin comaochlorpromazine random assignment study (which sounded the death knell of insulin coma), and a principal investigator of our studies of flurothyl (helping us define the efficacy and safety of this chemical induction of seizures). 1 . After cornpleting his training at Hillside, he went into private practice in Westchester County where he developed a good following. He continued his clinical teaching. From time to time, he has asked my advice in the management of patients and my recollection is that the patients had been treated well. The records were uniformly excellent. He is thoughtful, sincere, honest, dedicated, and responsible. He is a fine clinician, with excellent skills in diagnosis and treatment. He has a modest research record, and a good teaching record. it would be a pleasure to endorse his promotion at this University, and i am delighted to recommend his promotion at Cornell, as well deserved.
