In reading the section on treatment, I am disappointed with the short shrift given ECT. The young man you met on my service, Mr. White, clearly suffers from this disorder. The remarkable change in his behavior was not achieved with any drug combination, and when ECT was proposed, as a 'last-ditch effort', his family demurred for more than two months. Now they are delighted, and even if the improvement is transient, and allows him to be home for only a few weeks, it still remains a miracle to them.
