I have used this report, on occasion, to help families with their decision-making. Sid Malitz organized a fine 3—day meeting on ECT in New York City last week. The discussions were lively, and even representatives of the angry public were given a chance to ventilate. This meeting, and the forthcoming consensus conference organized by NIH, indicate that ECT, unfortunately, remains alive in America. I say 'unfortunately', because its very existence after 51 years reflects our lack of progress in developing better treatments for major depressions. When last we met, you said that you were making a film of your ECT (and insulin '2) experiences. When the weather is better, perhaps we should view it together ? The papers for the first issue of CONVULSIVE THERAPY are at the publishers, and it should appear in March. I held a meeting of the Board of Editors and they seemed quite enthusiastic.
