John Lehmann, Ph.D.
Department of Neuroscience

Ciba-Geigy Corporation
Summit, New Jersey 07901
Dear Dr. Lehmann,

This letter is in response to your inquiry regarding the availability of a
post-doctoral candidate in EEG to develop spectral analyses for drug effects in
animals. i regret that i have no candidate to recommend from my laboratory.
If you are willing to import an overseas scientist, you may wish to write to
Dr. Walter Sannita (Laboratory of Neurophysiology, Osp. San Martino, v. ie
Benedetto XV, 1-16132 Genoa, Italy). I understand that he has a number of
associates, one of whom may be interested in a two year opportunity in the U.S.
.

Also, the best man from my laboratory in the past decade has been Mr.
Peter Irwin (201-386 8683). He is an excellent scientist and understands drug
effects, frequency analysis, and EEG very well. A few years ago, he left to work in
Sandoz in Basie with Dr. M. Matecjek (who heads the Sandoz quantitative EEG
laboratory). After a few years, he wished to return to the U.S., but Sandoz had no
EEG laboratory here, so he has been working in clinical pharmacology. if you are
truly seeking for 'the right candidate to be the driving force and run the project'
you may consider him. His salary may be a problem, as he left us at more than
$#0,000/year (and well worth it).
Finally, there is a new organization, recently formed in Europe to bring
scientists interested in drug effects and EEG together. Meetings are held every two
the next will be in Genoa in July, l986. The IPEG - (International
years
Pharmaco-EEG Group) includes both clinical and animal pharmacologists, and drug
effects in animals and man are discussed. You may wish to write to the President
of the group, Dr. Johann Kugler (Nussbaumstrasse 7, D-SOOO Munich 2, Germany)
for further information.
