Shafique Department of Psychiatry Khyber Teaching Hospital Peshawar, Pakistan Dear Professor Shafique, Thank you for your kind invitation to participate in the Fifth International Conference of the Pakistan Psychiatric Society in December. it was kind of Dr. Stevens to suggest my name, and while I would be pleased to visit with you, I do not know how it can be arranged. We lack the funds to make such a trip feasible. As Dr. Stevens may have told you, I have been active in two programs for more than 20 years -— an understanding of the effects of psychotropic drugs and psychiatric treatments on the quantitative EEG, and the mode of action of convulsive therapy, particularly in the relief of mood disorders. If a trip could be arranged, I am able to describe our present usage and understanding of the mode of action of convulsive therapy (Convulsive Therapy: Theory and Practice); and on another occasion, describe the theory of association of EEG and behavior which has been helpful in our management of psychiatric patients with psychotropic drugs (EEG and Human Psychopharmacoiogy: Present Practice).
