We have not published our studies with antihypertensive drugs, although we have completed assays of propranolol, l-penbutolol (Betapressin), and azepexole. I will be presenting these findings at the CINP meetings in Florence at the end of June, but have not yet written the paper. In the meanwhile, the techniques are clearly sensitive to the CNS effects of these substances. Each affects brain function at doses which are clinically relevant, and do so in normotensive male volunteers. Preliminary reports of studies in progress in elderly hypertensives define CNS effects which are strongly sedative in type. These have been done by Kleindienst at Hoechst (Frankfurt), Matecjek and Irwin at Sandoz (Basie), and Herrmann (Berlin). I anticipate that they will be presenting their findings this year as well.
