Division of Neuropharmacological Products FDA 5600 Fishers Lane Rockville, Maryland 20857 Ref: A'WHNWW ”WV - Mianserin Dear Sir: The following is in response to your inquiry of February 24, 1982. -m<wmt=-mV—nwww"7 ""1"“ 1ND 17,365 in 1981, five TCA non-responding patients were inducted to courses of mianserin. The first two patients began their treatment as in—patients at University Hospital. Doses ranged from 20 to 160 rag/day in one patient, and 20 to 60 mg in the second. Their clinical response was not outstanding and both went on to receive successful courses of ECT. Three patients received mianserin as outpatients, with doses of 20 to nag/day. In one, the response was considered very satisfactory and the treatment was discontinued on 2/ 15/82. In two others, the results were not one was readmitted to a chronic hospital and the second was outstanding successfully treated with ECT. 120 - Two patients have been inducted in 1982 and are now doing well under treatment at maximum dosages of 120 mg/day. In none of the live completed patients (and in neither of the two in progress) have we recorded any untoward effects of the medication at these dosages, either in the self reports, observations, or laboratory tests.
