I am grateful for the clarifications resulting from the questions raised by your reviewers, and I believe the paper clearly separates what is established by research and experience and mechanisms what is speculation on my part. the criticism of the lack of citations and yet, I have noted that all citations to the experience with convulsive therapy are to my volume; to To answer meet the normal standards of the Journal, all the statements regarding the neuroendocrine hypothesis are supported by references to the work of others. Almost all the citations to articles to the end of 1978 are also included in my volume, but the ones in 1979 are not. It seems that this solution to the questions may be manageable.
