I am ebven more chagrined that the legislation was proposed by fellow Jews and supported by Mr. Landes from my community. I trust that the precedent will not lead to the expenditure of New York State funds (in short supply, it seems) to support schools in Rome for Italians, Madrid for Spanish, I am Dublin for the Irish, etc. If there should be withdrawn. bill, it is some way to withdraw yhis more places needed for New York State students, perhaps the development of Stony Brook could be advanced. We have admitted 48 students during each of the last two years. Our facilities are limited, but perhaps the funds could be replaced (those that we are told have been cut) and that such expenditure plus the Israeli funds and others yet to come would be sufficient to increase the SUNY class ? If there are I am writing not as a member of the SUNY faculty, but as a citizen of the State, as a parent, and as a Jew.
