Dear Jack,

I received your letter of May 17 as I was leaving for the

while I was there.

In going ower the GB-Qh data in Des, I became concerned with
two questions: the range of the differences in the date from each ine
differences in washout period, use of other drugs,
vestigator (i.
rate of dose increase); and the manner of handling the data reduction
(1 missing data, symptom scores vs. global scores, equivalence of
populations in the two samples). While the data may be in better 'shape'
than presented to me, and the processing may be quite satisfactory, but
I expressed my anxiety to Honk since so much (for Organon and for EEG
research) hangs on the analyses.

e.,

e.,

In answering your questions, I propose you allow two steps
in getting the answer: a preliminary review of a sample of the data
by the Biometric Laboratory in Washington, and a.more detailed review
soon thereafter by yourself and Mr. Stulemeijer with either a larger
sample or the total available data. The preliminary review will permit
Drs. Bonato and Guy to become acquainted.with the details of the study,.
and to relate the design and the problems to other studies that they
may

have analyzed.

If these steps are acceptable, I suggest that one set of
data sheets from one investigator be sent to no, as a sample of the
data. In addition, it would be helpful if we could have an estimate
of the total data available in a form similar to the outline attached.
I will send these to Drs. Bonato and Guy, and will plan to meet with
then to go over the prdblens and possibilities for analysis.
Based on these reviews, I will call or cable you defining their
suggestions and outlining the times available to them. I beliehe you

should review the data processing in their laboratory, not only fer its
statistical sophistication but for their experience in handling diverse
