Attached is the quarterly report of the studies of

supplement the formal

report.

1. It was our understanding that various itams of
equipment would be made available to the program, to
supplement those we anticipated bringing'to fiUNY~Stony
Brook from Raw York Mbdlcal College. We requested, and
believe we received approval, for a storage safe,
pupillomnter, printing calculater, and

reearder; WE indicated we would supply an Electroencephalo~
graph, oscilloscope, oscillator, and a tape analytic systam
(IBM 1800). These latter items were shipped to Stony Brook
on December 7, 1972.

2. At the formal site visit on November 16th, the
question or randam assignment of subjects to methadone and
cyclazocine was raised. While VB believed wn coula achieve
such assignment. yam: consultant, Dr. Raymond Knawles,
raised a quastion of ethics with sufficient acervity that our
Vfifi associates have requested that fbr the present, VB
assign patients on the basis of patient choice.

is otherviae progressing wall. we have
suaeessfully inducted three patients to cyclazocine during
Docamber, and undertook our first heroin challenges in
