Dear Doctor

Fetcrsan.

Enclosed is an interim report on the contract "$tudy of
Chronic Hashish Uaara 1n.Greace" (EEM h8~70~98), reflecting
obaervntions fbr the period Jnky 1, 1972 to Dacnwbar 31, 1972.
The report presents two aeta at data: a comparison of the index
ease. of hashiah users with a “contra." groupggand the abaarvntions
in the aubjectn smoking marijuana, haahiah and TKCwbw9 1n doaea
equ1Valent ta ?8 to 150 mg TRG~An9.

in our study of the hashiah users, «a found few deficits in
phyliology or test behavior whieh aould be prennmea to result
from tha use of hushiah (* tdbaceo). The comparison group. which
magma wall selected, shows the same degree of hast @ysfunctinn
on most

tests.

The

principal diffsrenaea batween groups are in

tests_of mnmory, a greater use a! tobaaco, and enlarged
palpable liver sages. These findings are an few as to lead to
the conclusion that users do not differ from controls. With
scan

regard to the

.

dbnarmalities, raported in 1969 which sparked
these stunias, the changes wars nat present in this aamyle of
users, nor eantrols.
In thn acute arms studios, twn 6bs¢rvationa stand out:
the subjects respond to vary high doses of different fbrmn of
canndbia; and that thare may be differences in their rasponae
unrelated fio THCnA~9 content along. From the first dbaarvationa
V! are tmpresaad that talersnce to the neutral effects of
canndbin in wall established; an& from the amenda that aomgonenta
of marijuana and hashish cther than TEC~A~9 are behaviarally
active, and that these activities ean.be parcellea out.
EEG

final of the data, particularly the detached statistical
antxysea of the EEG, and EEGébehavioral correlaticns of the acute
expcrimnntn are in precasa. and should be comylete by march. To
that extent. the enclosad summaries are preliminary.
