I have reviewed the personnel previously assigned to the Psycho~
pharmacology Clinic and the various budgets. I believe the following
assignments provide for the continuation of programs, and a proper

utilization of funds.

Miss Sonna burbin and Miss Doris Giordano: These two research
nurses are devoting more of their time to the drug abuse service.
They are budgeted on 47—072~7. Dr. Levine has indicated that Miss

Durbin's time is now almost fully occupied in the drug abuse program,
and her assignment should be clearly designated as part of the addic~

tion program.

Miss Giordano has committments to the BCT program, and as Dr.
Taylor implements his lactate program, he may wish to utilize her
time. I suggest she be reassigned to the clinical services, and her
salary be paid from the new grants awarded to Drs. Taylor and Abrams
(to the extent they wish to use her time), and in part to that budget of the clinical services that support the treatment program,
notably ECT. The researdh aspects of ECT are no longer funded as
a separate project.

I endorse the request of both nurses (attached) for a review
The job descriptions should be modified slightly,
but both have exhibited a flexibility of assignment and a willingness
to assume reaponsibility that has been most useful. (Appropriate
of

their salaries.

levels

may

be $12,700 for Miss Durbin and $11,500 for Miss Giordano).

Pedro Gaztanaga, H.D.: He is working full time in the training program. It seems to me that if his salary is to be paid from
47~O72—7, we should assume he will have some relation to the addici
tion service. At present, there is no opening. Should the training
division wish to use his services, a fair guid pro guofiwould he the
assignment of residents, in rotation to 15A, on an equal basis with
residency assignments to 13A or 133. Lacking such a rotation, I fail
to see the justification for the use of these fund (47—072—7) to sup—
port clinical teaching away from the drug abuse treatment unit.
The remaining assignments of personnel and budgets of 15A seem
appropriate to me, (iiEia 47-072—7 and the personnel assignments of

the

15A

Addiction Treatment)units).
