New York Dear Walt, I would be pleased if you would consider an evaluation of the central effects of 01—63, the l~10 polypeptides of ACTH, with a view to elaborating the observations of DeWied and of Indrocki. We have assessed the EEG effects in volunteer males, and in our pilot study have observed systematic changes to 10-12.5 mg intravenous. The changes are seen withing a half an hour. The effects are more prominent and somewhat unpleasant in dosages of 15 and 20 mg. These data are insecure, however, and require verification in a systematic study, which I plan to undertake this spring. Should you wish to study this compound, the monitors at Organon are willing to allow some of the material to leave my laboratory; and should there be some eXpenses for the chemistry, I amy be able to obtain some support. I am most interested in your opinion as to whether the data justifies the conclusion that the drug may have effects and thus may justify studies in man during the ECT process. I had suggested such a study to Dick Abrams, and it was he who reminded me that your methods are probably much more sophisticated than our human on DeWied extinction, methods for such evaluations.
