Prior experience with drugs permits the tissues to learn how to metabolize or how to adapt to high tissue levels of the most toxic agents. A good example is the development of tolerance to opiate and hallucinogenic drugs. This, too, may be a useful aspect of the discussion, particularly since it provides an alternate explanation to the genetic hypothesis. I have just returned from Athens, where I found the study progressing very well. The initial case~finding phase should be completed by the end of the summer, and I hope to spend a few weeks in the actual examinations after the WUrzburg meetings.
