Our studies of £~alpha~acetylmethadol fail to support the interest of Dr. Jaffe. The drug is more complex to use than methadone and provides no long-term solution. We have already transferred a number of patients from methadone to cyclazocine, as Dr. Kissin suggests. Unfortunately, again, the two compounds are incompatible and the switch-over is difficult. Progress, although slow, is continuing, and if your report stimulates additional interest, as I believe it will, it will contribute to the solution of a serious problem.
