Incidentally, you are to be congratulated issues. My staff and I read these issues with may on the much first two interest. There is one problem. recentty brought to my attention that be discussed by the ECDEU investigators with some profit, that of the compensation of subjects injured in our studies. I am enclosing a thoughtful article from a recent issue of Science. This has become particularly important as more investigators are assessing drugs in normal subjects (B. Goldstein, T. Iti., L. Goldstein and C. Pfeiffer, myself); in ambulatory outpatients (Rickels, Wheatley. Engelhardt); and in children and adolescents (Engelhardt, Connors. Fish, Simeon) - papulstions which provide unique ethical considerations. The issue was once discussed at length by the Clinical Committee (1961 or 1962) but no action was taken. Perhaps, a review is indicated at this time. My best regards.
