Dear Mr. Glushein,
Many thanks for your kind invitation to meet with your
fellow alumni of Cornell Law School on Wednesday, December 16. I look
forward to discussing the drug abuse scene in New York with its
political overtones; the research projects, particularly in opiate
dependence and cannabis (marijuana); and some recent novel observations
which provide an optimistic View of the immediate future in one
type of addiction. As a title, you may select either

Immunization— A.Realistic Answer to Opiate Dependence

or,

Drug Abuse, 1971-1975.

I graduated from the New York University College of Medicine
in 1945, and completed post-graduate training and certification in
neurology (1952), psychoanalysis (1953) and psychiatry (1954). I was
the first Director of Research of Hillside Hospital in Glen Oaks. N.Y.
(1954—1962) and established the Missouri Institute of Psychiatry in
St. Louis in 1962. This 150 bed research facility is the principal
psychiatric research facility of the state. While there, I also
served as Research Professor at Washington University School of Medicine.
In 1966, I returned as Professor of Psychiatry at the flew York Medical
College and Director of the Division of Biological Psychiatry. The
Drug Addiction Research Service of the Metropolitan Hospital Community
Mental Health Center has been my responsibility since 1967. I have
been a consultant to the National Institute of Mental Health, the
Food and Drug Administration and many pharmaceutical concerns, both
here and hhroad. Inresponse to support special psychiatric research
projects in unpOpular areas my friends and 1 established the International
Association for Psychiatric Research and I am its Executive Director.
I have published more than 150 scientific articles on drugs, brain
function, convulsive therapy and drug abuse.
Again,

my

thanks for your kind

invitation.
Sincerely yours,
Fink, M.D.
