I had been hopeful that the College would establish a direct relationship with Kirby, such that our patients would be treated on a long term basis at Kirby; thereby allowing my staff to study the therapy of the severe mentally ill. We did not ask for a research ward; indeed, we insisted that there he a clinical center first, and that research only of a clinical nature be encouraged. The first project that I wished to encourage was the ECT project now at Gracie Square Hospital. Since the negotiations have failed to achieve any closure have moved my project from Gracie Square to Metropolitan for 1970-71, I HOSpital.
