Mites and Stefania. The remainder of my trip was as interesting, if not meta so, than tho first part. The meetings in Liege were exoellent, with some presentations by biochemists and pharmacologists from scsndioovis that were relevsny to our interests. Much of the emphasis was on dopamine and noradrenalin, however, ,and in one discussion, when I asked about the role of acetylcholino. I was told that it was indeed important but that the absence of a suitable biochemical assay bed limited the studios to the oeurohumors that could be studied easily. (Thio was also stated by Dr. Eunnoy of EIHH who spoke at our College this post week.) I so still interested, however, and so taking the opportunity to enclose coma reprints of my studies. It seams to me that the convulsive therapy is the most specific and the best treatment of severe depressions in men; and that the study of its central effects should contribute so much or more to our understanding of deprassion‘ as the study of other oeurohuoors affected by imipramino and MAO inhibitors. In my earlier review I was impressed with sostylcholine, but this may have boon related as much to the available studios so to any relevant theory. The same study should be applied to the other ooutohumors, especially oorepinsphrins and dopamine. are treating ospreseive patients with induced convulsions, and bilateral elect rode placements. There are significant differences in EEG and in memory effects of the two types of treatment, and while those may be principally matters of degree rather than kind, it does.provide tho oppoortunity to study two éiffetent CS? psttsrns. we should be able to obtain CS? before and during the treatuont process.
