Further data now available, and not included in your summary, support your recognition. Dr. Dole has reported in the successful teaatment of a group of involuntary. incarcerated criminal addicts - a group heretofore considered completely untreatable. (Presented at the MAS-NRC meeting in Palo Alto, February l968). In our independent study of opiate antagonists, we have used methadone maintenance as our "standard” treatment. The treatment is highly successful with a negligible drop-out rate. Expansion of this program has been limited only by our desire to continue our exploration of alternate treatment models, notably cyclazocine and aaloxone. and not by any difficulties with the methadone treatment program. interested in knowing that Dr. Efren Ramirez has left his post for reasons that are undefined, described unofficially as disenchantment with the results of Finally, you will be his program.
