New York, New York l0027 Dear Miss Denison: Miss Karliner was appointed to our department in June l968 as a summer research worker and returned to school in September l968. She devoted her tine to the study of memory changes in psychiatric patients. most of whom were elderly, in our study of the convulsive therapy process. This study is in progress at Gracie Square Hospital, supported by the International Association for Psychiatric Research, Inc. In her work Miss Karliner was supervised by Dr. Rhea Dornbush, Ph.D., but I had the opportunity to meet with her twice weekly. Both by my direct observation and by her reputation at the hospital. she exhibited great facility in dealing with the severe mentally ill - some of whom were confused and most irritable. DeSpite the stress of dealing with difficult patients, she always maintained her able to stimulate cooperation even when difficult. She was well liked by her associates it and achieved a good reputation among the staff.
