Nutley, New Jersey 07ll0 Dear Dr. Robinson: It was a pleasure to visit your laboratories, and I am most grateful for the courtesy and attention shown me by Dr. Whitman and his associates. I am impressed with the was of value to me to meet Dr. Schallek and programs and see his program in action. The EEG methods of analysis of psychoactive drugs for applications in man has been of Special interest to me. and I will review the data of R0 5-3350 with the probability of undertaking a neurophysiological profile analysis in normal volunteers. We are prepared to cooperate with Dr. Schallek in the analysis of some of his data should he wish to do so. it it is taking advantage of our short acquantance, a ridiculous problem which you and the laboratories at Hoffman-La Roche may be of assistance. The neurophysiology of narcotics has become a recent interest, and the problem of marijuana and tetrahydrocannabinols has been an open question since the first studies of Williams et‘gl., in l946. We are equipped to do detailed analyses in man, But have been unable to obtain a legal source of marijuana or THC. The recent report of Schekel and his associates indicates that but THC Perhaps I am faced with was produced by your laboratories. consider the production of THC for our use? the necessary Federal and state permits for testing and handling marijuana; an IND from the FDA; and protocols for studies have been approved by the appropriate committees of the medical school and by the Commissioner of Hospitals of New York.
