Dear Dr. Banner:

of Psychiatry is eXpanding its research programs
and we are appointing new staff to positions, usually without term.
The College does not have a tenure policy and most appointments are
based on mutual satisfaction. As is Customary in such Situations,
positions are "permanent” for the life of a satisfactory relationship.
With regard to teaching, emphasis in research is on the preceptor
.model. There may be some call by the director of training for lectures
to resident physicians, but such duties would be limited. The primary
teaching would be to resident physic1ans who elect to participate in __.4L&‘1:
,our study programs, or to medical Studie§:”Eb volunteer during recess
or elective periods. In both instances, no formal lectures are required.

to salary, this is a difficult question since few
candidates with your qualifications have been appointed. During
the past few months it has been.my custom to recommend candidates
to the Chairman and his administrative assistant with a salary
.

With regard

recommendation whichhas-been negotiated by the candidate and myself.

I are interested in meeting wdth you to
discuss your appOintment. If you can arrange to visit our
laboratory at your convendénce, we would like to proceed.
My

associates

and

Incidentally, I have spoken to Professors Wyers -and
increased our interest in your application.
