uniting to request your permission for the allocation
to $3, 700 from Mil—12567 to support special animal
pharmacology studies of cyolazocine by Dr. Richard P. Irmite of
the University of Termssee.

The

up

clinical studies with cyclszocine in the treatment

of narcotic

addicts have

gone

very well.

The

initial studies

denomtmted a satisfactory dosage schedule and we are new
cyolazocine oxgmizing the comparative rs‘ndm
methadone transients in volunteer narcotic addicts.
Concmmntly, our

EEG

assth

studies demonstrated a spectrum of

activity similar to imiprsmine and a clinical stung of cyclasooine
in the
of depression undertaken in St. mum. The
results of the first eleven depressive patients are being presented at the Montreal ECDEU meetings, and mess demnstrste
clearly that Cyclezocins has antiéspressant activity. At the
same time, we have hem studies in the Mental Hygiene Clinic
at Metropolitan Ibsfiitel and these too are showing unusual
clinical results.

"

Under project WI~13358, the EEG latmtory in New York is
re-established for quantitative analysis and I am devoting
the next few mnths to an intensive analysis of the dose response
of cyclazooine and heroin in postmamotic addicts.
The animal studies of heroin and cyclszocine are very limited.
Dr. Richard P. Emits of the University of Temessse, a. sophisticated
aminel phamecologist, with a sincere interest in EEG, has indicated
that he would be willing to carry out some additional studies in
his laboratory during the next's to 12 months. He has some time
available because the proposed sabbatical in England has been
deferred for one year since Dr. Bradley is to he may in Palo Alto.

by a budget of $3,700. This own is available in the present
grant by the transfer of personnel costs to our clinical funds .
Dr. Preednan has concurred in them mmndations.
Play we

have your approval for the allocation of funds up

to $3,700 from I‘m—12567 for consultationtfees to Dr. Richard P.
White of the University of Tennessee in line with the attached
