Dear

Men,
Again, I must tell you how umch we enjoyed your
we accomplished quite a lot and I look forward

think

visit. I

to visiting

after the California trip.
First , I have read the TRP drug evaluation study protocol

with you

dated 3/8/67 which you asked

me

to check.

The study design

is

straightforward and I found no significant objections. Since
I am particularly interested in the rating, I paid attention
to the section on page seven. This schedule of rating is
satisfactory, with the only proviso that every effort shwld
be made to have the ward nurses rating the patients be the same
nurses for each group of patients, wherever possible. I believe
the patients will be on more than'one ward. In the same fashion
that you are asking the same physicians to rate each patient
throughout the study period, perhaps the nurses should also be
named and an effort be made to identify those who accept the
responsibility for the ratings of this study.
'

Enclosed is a retyped protocol for the very high dosage
fluphenazine study, projected for Istanbul. If this is

satisfactory, please call

I

pleased

me

and

Ilwill

send out the

original.

have read the laboratory paper again, and am just'as
now as I wassane months ago. I am not clear whether

P.S. I have just read the booklet on psychiatric and clinical
rating scales once again. It is most useful and an
excellent idea. May I suggest that you add a specific
item identified as 1A or as number 8, in which the Turkish
nodification of the rating scales are included with a single
'

stating that the translation was made for
a specific project , but that the principles are applicable
to other collaborative study programs.

Either with this addition or without it , would it be
possible to supply me with three additional copies of this
publication #2 (1967)?
Many

thanks.
