The iissouri Institute of Psychiatry is the research and training center of the Division of Mental Diseases of Missouri. It was established in October, 1962, with laboratories and clinical facilities for research. At the present time. of 150 beds. we are utilizing 70 for research pur~ poses. Laboratories are established in pharmacology. psychology. and electroencephalography, as well as a computer center for both statistical and EEG analyses. There is a specialised psychiatric research library as a component part of the Institute. Animal facilities are now being built and will be completed by the end of the year. In neurophysiology. we have the following magor programs: evaluating the EEG changes withvpsychotropic drugs and relating these to the behavioral results; a study of the cortical averaged evoked potential and determining the interrelationship between different methods of EEG analysis and efforts to quantify these, and to relate these changes to behavioral changes as reflected in psycholinguistio methods. At the present time. the Institute is planning to expand these programs in the coming year.
